This is not a sit down class and nobody writes notes. It is purely aural. Students learn through movements, rhythmic repetition and call and respond. The aim for each class is to memorize a few words or phrases as a group and immediately interact with each other. Facilitator Clara Hsu will fine-tune each participant's pronounciation.

Short term goal is to feel comfortable making Cantonese sounds and lose the fear of speaking the dialect.

Due to COVID-19, classes now meet at St. Mary's Square (corner of California Street and Grant Ave)

Facilitator Clara Hsu is a poet and translator of Chinese poetry. She was born in Hong Kong and came to the United States for nearly 50 years. Clara is a piano and children's theater instructor and has been leading classes in Chinese poetry spoken in Cantonese since 2017.
