Teddy, Out of Tune is an award-winning docufiction road movie that follows a wandering street musician driving the West Coast with a piano strapped to the back of his pickup, hoping to scatter his late mother’s ashes in the ocean. Shot over two weeks on a $10,000 budget, the film grew out of the SFFILM FilmHouse program and went on to screen at festivals including Mill Valley and Maryland. For this special San Francisco event, the film will be accompanied live by Bay Area band Nobozos, creating a one-night-only performance that blends cinema and live music. The screening is part of a limited national tour celebrating the film’s new boutique Blu-ray release through independent distributor NoBudge. Filmmaker Daniel Freeman and collaborators will also be present for a post-screening conversation about the unusual production process and the film’s unexpected second life years after its original release.
