About the Event
San Francisco Premiere of the jazz documentary exploring the music and life of Jimmy Lyons (a singer/songwriter and long-time resident of the Bay Area). Jimmy is a legendary jazz artist who writes lyrics about love, family, existentialism, politics, myth, meaning, and once penned a song for Johnny Mathis. Lyons was also arrested in New York City at the Gaslight Cafe for his unique vocal style and acquitted with “the right to expand the boundaries of poetry.”
A predecessor to hip hop, contemporary to Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan and Cecil Taylor -- Jimmy Lyons' multi-layered creativity extended to the Actor's Studio in NYC (in the 1960's) alongside Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Timothy Carey.
The film is 47 minutes, followed by a post-discussion with director Jeff M. Giordano.
Co-produced/edited by Aaron Gwynn.
